Commissioning

Frankly, commissioning music videos started by mistake.
I was working as a freelance producer when legendary commissioner, Dilly Gent, needed a caretaker at Parlophone Records as she was travelling to New Zealand to work with Crowded House. Parlophone’s artist roster was off the scale; the work being commissioned was exciting and innovative. It was a great place to start.

I then moved within EMI to become Head of Music Video at Chrysalis Records. There I worked with Belinda Carlisle,

Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Simple Minds, The Power Station, Mike Scott, White Town and Black Box Recorder, amongst others.

In 1996, I was introduced to ex-Take That wild child, Robbie Williams, who was starting out on a solo career.
He turned out to be a gift of an artist for a video commissioner – charismatic, competitive, fearless and very, very funny.
“Can you skate? “ “I last skated when I was 14 – I’ll give it a go.”
“Can you ride a horse?” “No. I’ll give it a go, though.”
26 years later, Rob and his management still haven’t managed to shake me off and making videos with Rob remains both a pleasure and a privilege.

I left Chrysalis in 1998.

As a freelance commissioner, I have worked with Tina Turner, Beth Orton, Blur, Pet Shop Boys, Travis, Goldfrapp, Kaiser Chiefs, Jack Savoretti, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, The Maccabees, Take That (co-commissioner), Catfish and The Bottlemen, Rick Astley, Blondie and Snow Patrol.

I continue to take on selective commissions alongside repping.
